Upcoming Mastercard Changes and What You Should Know
March 2, 2016 - Product Updates
What’s changing?
MasterCard card numbers have traditionally started with a 5. Starting October 14 2016, systems like Foxy (and your gateway provider like Authorize.net, Stripe, Braintree, etc.) must be able to accept MasterCards starting with a 2.
How does this apply to merchants?
Merchants must be able to accept and support the new 2-series BIN range in card-present and card-not-present payment acceptance channels by Jan. 1, 2017.
Do FoxyCart users need to do anything?
Probably not. We’ll be making the required changes, and MasterCard cards starting with a 2 will work on FoxyCart starting October 14, 2016.
That said, we can’t vouch for your payment gateway, but unless you’re using a super old and busted gateway, they’ll be aware and ready for this change as well. (And if you are using such a gateway, we’d be happy to refer you to a great modern option with fantastic support and competitive rates.)
